Having purpose for the new year

Updated: Dec 19, 2022

“Come to the game” and be EXPECTANT. To have PURPOSE does not mean you expect the year to run smoothly, because that is something we just can’t determine.

“Come to the game” and be EXPECTANT. To have PURPOSE does not mean you expect the year to run smoothly, because that is something we just can’t determine.

When the #springboks play a game, long & hard hours of work are done before the game. When the time is right, they show up for the game, READY, with anticipation. They have the expectation to win! Do they always win? No. Sometimes certain factors outside of their control play a roll, sometimes the other team was more prepared or the better team on that day. That’s OK! Regardless of what society expects, we can’t always win.

A colleague sister of mine, shared a post about “The law of wasted effort.” Lions only succeed 25% of the time when they hunt, thus failing 75% of the time. #kingofthejungle. That lion expected to “win”, he put in all of the work, but we cannot determine our own outcome.

Having PURPOSE for this new year means to set some REALISTIC GOALS for yourself and then WORK towards them, expecting to be successful. Goals do not only include “loosing weight” now, hey! Your goal can be to finally organize the chaotic drawer in your house. It can be to try and eat Brussel sprouts (haha, not my goal for the year!) It can be to start setting your alarm for half an hour earlier to 1st spend time with God. This will be your most important goal to reach, because being in-step with God will help you with all the rest.

Just a reminder, do the work, be expectant, but DON’T BE TOO HARD ON YOURSELF if you have “failed.”

Failing is a part of life…ask the lions. The important part is to get back up and to try again, maybe with a different strategy this time. Let’s all aim for a PURPOSEFUL YEAR, whatever that looks like for us.
